PAC-MAN Man Long Sleeves EXCLUSIVE DESIGN
PAC-MAN 35th Anniversary: Men Long Sleeves - Exclusive design by Jesse Philips
Jesse Philips is currently living and working in Albuquerque, NM. He drew his early inspiration from
comic books, grati and cartoons which have remained a major inuence on his work. While attending
college at MCAD, Jesse spent a year studying at the Sozosha College of Design in Osaka, Japan where
he became fascinated with graphic design. Jesse returned home with an interest in combining illustration
with design. Creating art and music posters oered him an opportunity to do just that while
allowing him to maintain a high level of artistic freedom.
His story with Pac-Man
I was born in 1979 so I was already playing video games by the early 80s
I remember playing Pac-Man as a small child. I was fascinated by the intense and frantic gameplay. The
ability to turn on your enemies once you ate a power pellet was quite unique. I’d never seen anything
Pac-Man is one of only a handful of games that I still enjoy playing as much now as I did years ago. I
think this is why you still see Pac-Man arcade machines to this day even though arcades have all but
vanished in many places. I think the fact that Pac-Man has remained relevant as a game and in popular
culture is a testament to it’s playability and charm.
· The maze behind the piece
The basic concept for my piece was to create an anatomical/mechanical Pac-Man diagram that includes
items, enemies etc. The cutaway revealing his inner workings is a reference to his electronic origins. I
wanted to maintain a vintage 1980s video game feel.
I've always been a big fan of marquee/arcade cabinet graphics and yers and I I’ve tried to incorporate
that style into my piece.
